Safeguarding
Everyone at The Mountbatten School takes their role in protecting children and safeguarding young people incredibly seriously. The safeguarding culture evident in the school demonstrates our commitment to ensuring that students feel safe in their education. If we suspect that a child has been harmed, or may come to harm, we take carefully considered actions to protect that child whilst taking their views into consideration.
Parents and carers can feel confident that careful procedures are in place to ensure that all staff are suitable to work with children. We encourage parents/carers and children to talk freely about any concerns or worries which may affect them and our RSHE programme encourages an open dialogue regarding some of the more contentious issues that teenagers today may face.
We work hard to create an environment where students know that they matter, that their voice is heard and that they can, and should, achieve their very best. We have a number of staff who have received specific training in child protection; they are available to discuss any concerns or questions you may have. We also have in place a range of policies and procedures to support our safeguarding commitment which can be found here.
Part of our role is to explicitly educate children and young people on how to keep themselves safe, both online, using mobile technology, and to understand what is considered abuse in their daily interactions with people around them.
Children, parents/carers and staff are encouraged to report any concerns they may have about safety and welfare to our Designated Safeguarding team. Children are taken seriously when they seek help from a member of staff. Students may be referred for additional bespoke support from external agencies who work closely with us. We will endeavour to work in partnership with parents and carers at all times, where appropriate, to inform them of additional support required or accessed for their child.
If you have any concerns relating to any student in our school please contact one of the members of the safeguarding team here.
Students also have access to a fantastic app called 'Tootoot', which they can download on their phones and use to report any issues or concerns they have with our Student Services team. This can range from bullying to mental health - it is a confidential way for students to report concerns to school if they are worried about talking to someone face-to-face.
