Year 7 Spanish Spelling Bee
A huge congratulations to Oscar B 7EML, Grace H 7EML and James K 7TDN for their outstanding determination and commitment in the Year 7 Spanish Spelling Bee!
Yesterday afternoon, they proudly represented our school at the highly competitive regional finals, going head-to-head with students from 10 other schools. In preparation for the competition, they worked incredibly hard to learn 200 words, mastering not only their meanings but also how to spell them correctly in Spanish. Their dedication and resilience truly shone as they tackled challenging words under pressure.
Although they didn’t advance to the national finals this time, they delivered an exceptional performance and put up a fantastic challenge. We are incredibly proud of their efforts and the way they showcased their language skills. Well done, Oscar, Grace, and James!

Click the drop-down menus below to find out more about different careers opportunities coming up for our students.
Year 8 – Careers in Hair and Beauty
Students have been learning about different careers in the hair and beauty industry during their weekly careers lessons.
To find out more about what the job of Special Effects Artist involves, students took part in a webinar with Stuart Bray, who has worked on films such as Saving Private Ryan, The Mummy, Shaun of the Dead and Game of Thrones. Stuart showed and explained how some of the prosthetics were designed, and shared with students which skills they need to succeed in this highly competitive environment. Students who wish to take this further in college could, for example, study Media Make-up Artistry at Southampton City College and later on continue to study BA (Hons) Prosthetics and Special Effects Design Degree at Solent University.
RSHE lessons have continued to be taught each week in tutor groups. Do ask your child what they have been learning about and encourage them to ask further questions.
In lesson, teachers use a range of oracy-based strategies, including a Philosophy for Children approach. This is where students are encouraged to think more deeply through critical, creative, collaborative and caring thinking skills. Below are links to more information regarding RSHE.
This half-term Year 7 will be exploring puberty, looking at the process of physical and emotional changes that occur as children grow into adults, considering the different ways puberty affects boys and girls. They will go on to identify what influences they have around them and how to maintain appropriate behaviours during adolescence.
Year 8
This half-term Year 8 will be exploring healthy relationships, consent and intimate relationships with an introduction to contraception. They will also consider online safety and relationships.
Year 9
Year 9 will begin the New Year considering what a healthy relationship is, what it means to be committed to relationships, including intimate ones. They will also explore different contraceptives and discuss STI’s and how they are transmitted.
Year 10
Year 10 will be exploring influences around them and peer relationships. They will consider the impact of gang culture and the risks of County Lines and drug activity. They will then prepare for the start of their work experience.
Year 11
Year 11 will be completing their last topics of RSHE before developing study and revision skills ahead of the GCSE exams. The final lessons include Self-examination, sexual health and medical appointments and pregnancy. Videos supporting the self-checking sessions include: Check Your Pair – A How-To Guide and https://vimeo.com/29898544
Should your child wish to seek support related to any of these topics or about anything else that is worrying them, please advise them to speak to their form tutor in the first instance or request some support from our Student Support Team by completing the Student Support form on the student area of the school website.
Our message reporting system 'TootToot', can also be used to request support or report a concern.
Childline also offers a range of support and resources.
Part of the healthy living topics include discussing the need for good sleep habits. Support with teenage sleep can be found at Teen Sleep Hub, which is part of The Sleep Charity.
