Our recent school ski trip was an incredible experience, and we couldn’t be more proud of our students for their outstanding behaviour and enthusiasm. From start to finish, they demonstrated a lovely balance of fun, teamwork, and responsibility.
On the slopes, our students showed great determination and skill. Whether they were seasoned skiers or first-timers, they supported each other with encouragement and kindness. It was amazing to see the students challenging themselves while maintaining a positive attitude, no matter the skill level.
But it wasn’t just in the snow where our students shone. Their behaviour throughout the trip was exemplary. They were respectful, followed instructions, and ensured the trip ran smoothly. From being punctual, to keeping their rooms tidy (kind of!), their maturity and teamwork were impressive. Staff were regularly complimented on how well our students represented the school, both in how they interacted with others and how they respected their environment.
The trip wasn’t just about skiing—it was about making memories, fostering friendships, and developing confidence. Students took part in fun après-ski activities and bonded over shared experiences. The traditional Austrian dancing evening will live long in the memory!
The positive attitude and spirit of our students were the highlights of the trip, and we’re looking forward to many more adventures together! Big thanks to Mr Marshall for bringing it all together.
A highlight of this week, has been our Year 11 Food Technology students sitting their final GCSE practical exam. They have produced some incredible dishes. Miss Gregory and Ms Jones have been very impressed with the focus, skill and independence on display to produce the dishes they wanted. Both staff and students will sleep well this weekend!
I write this whilst wearing an inflatable Tyrannosaurus Rex costume. Who on earth in the Science department thought Jurassic Park was a good theme for World Book Day?! Teaching…the gift that keeps on giving!
Have a lovely weekend.

Please email Natalie.Harper@mountbatten.school if you would like to know more about what we can do to support your child's educational progress and achievement.

World Book Day Celebrations
This year’s World Book Day was a fantastic success, bringing students and staff together in a joyous celebration of reading and literature.
Staff Dressing Up Competition
One of the most anticipated events of the day was the staff fancy dress competition, and our teachers did not disappoint! From Where’s Wally to Town Mouse, Country Mouse, the costumes were both impressive and entertaining. Students had the opportunity to vote for their best-dressed department, and the competition was fierce! Congratulations to the Science department for taking first prize with their fantastic portrayal of Jurassic Park! Enjoy your prizes!
School-Wide Scavenger Hunt
Our school-wide scavenger hunt proved to be a thrilling challenge, with students solving book-related clues and riddles hidden all around the school. Teams raced to crack the codes and uncover hidden treasures, making for an exciting and engaging literary adventure. A huge well done to everyone who took part and to our winning teams, who showed outstanding detective skills!
Tutor Time Book Reads
Throughout the day, tutors shared extracts from their favourite books or exciting new tales, introducing students to new genres and inspiring them with incredible storytelling. These tutor time book reads were a wonderful way to start the day and sparked many discussions about reading.
A Day to Remember!
World Book Day was a truly special occasion, celebrating the magic of books and the joy of reading. Thank you to everyone who participated, dressed up, solved clues, and shared stories. Your enthusiasm and creativity made the event one to remember!
We can’t wait to do it all again next year—until then, keep reading and keep exploring the wonderful world of books!
RSHE lessons have continued to be taught each week (including today) in tutor groups. Do ask your child what they have been learning about and encourage them to ask further questions.
In lesson, teachers use a range of oracy-based strategies, including a Philosophy for Children approach. This is where students are encouraged to think more deeply through critical, creative, collaborative and caring thinking skills. Below are links to more information regarding RSHE.
This half-term Year 7 will be exploring puberty, looking at the process of physical and emotional changes that occur as children grow into adults, considering the different ways puberty affects boys and girls. They will go on to identify what influences they have around them and how to maintain appropriate behaviours during adolescence.
Year 8
This half-term Year 8 will be exploring healthy relationships, consent and intimate relationships with an introduction to contraception. They will also consider online safety and relationships.
Year 9
Year 9 will begin the New Year considering what a healthy relationship is, what it means to be committed to relationships, including intimate ones. They will also explore different contraceptives and discuss STI’s and how they are transmitted.
Year 10
Year 10 will be exploring influences around them and peer relationships. They will consider the impact of gang culture and the risks of County Lines and drug activity. They will then prepare for the start of their work experience.
Year 11
Year 11 will be completing their last topics of RSHE before developing study and revision skills ahead of the GCSE exams. The final lessons include Self-examination, sexual health and medical appointments and pregnancy. Videos supporting the self-checking sessions include: Check Your Pair – A How-To Guide and https://vimeo.com/29898544
Should your child wish to seek support related to any of these topics or about anything else that is worrying them, please advise them to speak to their form tutor in the first instance or request some support from our Student Support Team by completing the Student Support form on the student area of the school website.
Our message reporting system 'TootToot', can also be used to request support or report a concern.
Childline also offers a range of support and resources.
Part of the healthy living topics include discussing the need for good sleep habits. Support with teenage sleep can be found at Teen Sleep Hub, which is part of The Sleep Charity.
Please note all calls both to and from the school are recorded for training and monitoring purposes.
