We have reached that time of year again where we have started plans for our whole school Mountbatten Sports Day, a significant event on our whole school calendar!
I am pleased to announce that this will be held on Thursday 18 July on the school field. This event is a wonderful opportunity for our students to showcase their athletic skills, sportsmanship and team spirit as they accumulate points for their House Team.
All students will be selecting their events next week during tutor time. We will then be offering students the opportunity to attend our athletics club on Wednesday after school over the next couple of weeks to prepare for their event.
It’s important that your child attends Sports Day in their PE kit and remains in this for the whole day. They must bring plenty of water and ensure they bring sun protection as they will be outside for approximately 3 hours over the course of the day. It’s important that your child does not attend Sports Day with face paint or glitter at the start of the day as they will be attending normal lessons.
Your child will be attending tutor and lessons as normal from period 1 to 4. However, if your child is competing in a field event or track heat during the morning, they will come out of lessons to do so. Each year group will participate in the heats during a designated period, which can be found below:
Year 10 - Period 1
Year 9 - Period 2
Year 8 - Period 3
Year 7 - Period 4
If your child is participating in a morning event, they will remain in lessons as normal. All students will be outside supporting the finalists in the afternoon. All key information regarding the event has been shared with your child during assemblies over this week.
We are looking forward to another successful Sports Day!

Summer Concert & Founder's Day
Congratulations to our wonderful musicians who have had an incredibly busy week. Wednesday evening was a spectacular event at the Abbey for our Summer Concert, where we saw students from across the school perform to an exceptionally high standard.
Many returned to Romsey Abbey on Thursday morning for our annual Founder’s Day Service. Thank you and well done to all of Year 7 who were in attendance. Thank you to our musicians for creating the perfect ambience in this incredible setting, for the service. A special thank you to the Music Academy for the time you have invested to ensure we were treated to such an incredible showcase.
Hockey Achievement
The Pete Atkins Youth Hockey Foundation runs Team Solent and this season, Luke B 7JSL and Hamish N 7EHK were selected to represent Team Solent (alongside other hockey players from across the South).
The Lions Trophy took place at the Nottingham Hockey Centre over 3 days.
There were 10 participating teams from across the UK, including Ulster, Northern Ireland and North Wales. Team Solent played 7 games, and although they battled hard, unfortunately they did not make the top 3 places. Despite this, it was a great opportunity for Luke and Hamish to represent their region. Well done!
Year 11: Cashless Catering Balances
If your Year 11 child has any positive balances on their cashless catering account, the balance will be transferred to any sibling still in school as early as possible in July.
If there are no siblings, the balance will be refunded to you by Taylor Shaw (the school's caterers) back to the card that the payment was made on, by the end of the first week in August.
The Barton Peveril cast and crew of The Wedding Singer are buzzing with excitement as they enter the final weeks of rehearsals, with only two weeks left until opening night.
Countless hours of hard work have gone into producing this hilarious and fast-paced production, which promises to deliver a thrilling mix of drama, humour, breathtaking dance numbers, and a stunning ensemble. With a live orchestra providing the musical backdrop, the final performance promises to be a truly unforgettable experience. We are deeply grateful for the support and dedication of everyone involved in bringing this musical to life. Two Ex-Mountbatten students, Holly B and Isabelle S are part of the ensemble for this production!
Please join Barton Peveril and support the show. Tickets are available here.

Year 9 & 10 'Inspire STEM' at National Oceanography Centre
The interactive ‘Inspire STEM’ trip to NOC gave students the opportunity to take part in a wide range of activities aimed to inspire them to consider a career in STEM. Some of the activities students took part in included coding bots (Roke Manor), building a spaghetti bride (Balfour Beatty) and testing laboratory samples (Thermo Fisher). They also had an opportunity to experiment with gas (BOC), design a dream cruise ship (Carnival UK), experience the flight simulator (Hampshire & IoW Air Ambulance), and trial the the VR headsets in the Tech Truck.

3 & 4 July: Peter Symonds College
Click on the tabs below to find out what each year group is exploring in RSHE this term!
Year 7
Students have been discussing what a diverse society looks like and what the protected characteristics of the equalities act are. This has led to identifying and challenging stereotypes and what discrimination is. Students are also exploring what prejudice and bias looks like within the media and how they can research and find their own facts. Students are also identifying who their role models are and what influences they have upon them, as well as how to manage peer pressure.
Year 8
Students have been busy identifying what constitutes a healthy relationship and discussing how to form positive and healthy new friendships. This moves onto exploring their online activity and behaviours with the aim to reduce online risks and develop their digital resilience. Students also explore the importance of human rights and responsibilities within society, the school environment and the workplace and how to challenge discrimination.
Year 9
Students have been identifying how relationships can change and evolve. This has also included considering loss. Family dynamics and marriage are explored and Year 9 revisit what constitutes a positive relationship. Contraception and the risk of sexually transmitted infections is shared with the students.
Year 10
Students have been reflecting on their work experience placements by sharing their experiences and feedback with one another. They have also been completing their work books and evidence in preparation for their entry to the Prince’s Trust World of Work certification. They will then move on to considering role models and aspirations before revisiting online safety.
Year 11
Students complete their RSHE program this half-term ahead of their exams but have spent some time reflecting on their RSHE journey throughout their time at Mountbatten from Year 7 to Year 11. They have discussed some sensitive topics around pregnancy, miscarriage and abortion with maturity. Positive relationships and consent have been explored and developed from their work in Year 10. We hope that our RSHE curriculum will help our students stay healthy and happy during and long after their exams.
Should your child wish to seek support related to any of these topics or about anything else that is worrying them, please advise them to speak to their form tutor in the first instance or request some support from our Student Support Team by completing the Student Support form on the student area of the school website.
We have our reporting system 'TootToot', where students can report anonymously or with their name.
