What a week for Year 11 to come back to! Whilst we have enjoyed the sunshine there have been ten more GCSE examinations. They have conducted themselves wonderfully. Year 11, the end is near, hang in there for the next week and a half!
As we move into the second half of the summer term, there is always work to be done; getting ready for September. One of the things we have been looking at with staff and students is to simplify our ‘code of conduct’, to make it easier for everyone to understand and follow. Consequently, we have drafted 7 simple rules for students to stick to, ensuring everyone can get along and get the most out of every day. The working title is ‘The Mountbatten Way’:
I always try my hardest and learn to the best of my ability
I take responsibility for my learning and the learning of others, allowing everyone to learn without disruption
I always do as I am asked, the first time I am asked
I respect others, their opinions and their personal space
I am in the right place, at the right time, doing the right thing
I take pride in the presentation of all my work
I always have the correct equipment and wear my uniform correctly
We believe they summarise our core values of We Care, We Respect, We Achieve. The vast majority of our students get this right every day, the data backs it up. This year our staff have awarded 412,128 epraise points compared to 28,726 demerits. That is over 14x more positive than negative! Well done and keep up the good work. Have a lovely weekend…in the sun?!

As we step into the vibrant blossoming season of spring. Whilst we have already mentioned this, we want to ensure that every child at our school can fully embrace the wonders of this time. However, with the beauty of spring comes the challenge of hay fever for many of our students.
Hay fever, also known as allergic rhinitis, can cause discomfort and disrupt learning if not managed effectively. Symptoms such as sneezing, itching, nasal congestion and watery eyes can impact your child’s ability to focus and participate in class activities.
To support our students during this season, we kindly ask parents to ensure that your child has access to appropriate hay fever medication. Whether it’s antihistamines, nasal sprays, or eye drops, having these medications readily available can make a world of difference in managing symptoms and allowing your child to thrive academically and socially.
Additionally, please remind your child to practise good hygiene, such as washing hands frequently and avoid rubbing their eyes, to minimise exposure to pollen and other allergens.
Thank you for helping us to create a healthy and supportive learning environment for all our students. Together, we can ensure that every child can fully enjoy the wonders of spring without the discomfort of hay fever holding them back.
Year 9 Enterprise Project - Exclusive Offer!
We are a group of Year 9 students that have been studying Enterprise. Over the year, we have learnt why small businesses exist and what makes them a success, market research methods, promotional activities and finance methods. This week, they presented to the whole staff.
Alongside our theoretical learning, we have been developing our own business ideas. This year we have chosen to create reusable and sustainable tote bags for staff and students to purchase. There is a choice of designs that you can select from!
They measure 38cm x 42cm, so they're big enough to hold a PE kit, or an A4 folder. The bags will be available for a limited time only and at the very competitive price of £2.50!
These can be ordered before Friday 21 June via the following Google Form and an online payment using Scopay. Orders will be distributed via tutors before the end of the summer term.
Thank you for supporting us!

Bike Registering - Saturday 8 June 2024
Romsey Police are holding a free bike registration session on Saturday 8 June from 9.00am - 12.00pm. This will take place at Romsey Police Station, 111 The Hundred, Romsey, SO51 8BY.
Bike registering is about getting individuals' bikes registered to the UK’s bicycle database. Registering your bike is a highly effective, visible deterrent to bike thieves. By marking and registering your bike, you stand a chance that the police will be able to return it to you if it is stolen and recovered. A marked bike is 83% less likely to be stolen than an unmarked one. This is because the stickers used don’t come off easily and take forever to get rid of. There are 1.25 million bikes registered in the UK, and they are used by every Police Force in the UK.
On arrival at Romsey Police Station, and they will mark it up with a code and register it on the database.

Hampshire Cup
The Year 9s won their cup final yesterday and are now HAMPSHIRE CUP WINNERS, beating the reigning champions, Salesian College.
We went a goal down after 45 seconds, but the boys stuck together and drew level midway through the first half with a well taken goal by Ed Y 9OWS. Then just before half-time, Tom S 9VGN scored a header from a long free kick taken by Reuben W 9RLE to give us a 2-1 lead at half-time.
In the second half, we had a couple one on ones, which were brilliantly saved by the opposition goalkeeper. Salesian then equalised, straight after their goalkeeper pulled off another great save, to level the game at 2-2. With 10 minutes left, Salesian were then awarded a penalty, but their striker hit the post (justice as it was a very harsh penalty!). This then gave us the momentum and Owen M 9OWS scored two goals in the last 5 minutes of the game to seal a 4-2 victory.
A great performance all round and the boys did the school proud.

Internationalism - Mumbai Climate Change
Year 8 students have been collaborating with students in Mumbai this year on taking global action towards climate change. We were very fortunate to welcome guests from Pomegranate Workshops in Mumbai, India to The Mountbatten School to discuss what life is like in Mumbai, the impact of the pandemic on schools in India and a chance to explore different cultures and the impact of climate change in the UK and India. There was also an opportunity to sample some traditional Indian sweets which, of course, went down very well with the Year 8s!
Students and staff across both schools cooperated brilliantly, and we look forward to giving our students more of these opportunities in the future. Well done, Year 8s!

Click on the tabs below to find out what each year group is exploring in RSHE this term!
Year 7
Students have been discussing what a diverse society looks like and what the protected characteristics of the equalities act are. This has led to identifying and challenging stereotypes and what discrimination is. Students are also exploring what prejudice and bias looks like within the media and how they can research and find their own facts. Students are also identifying who their role models are and what influences they have upon them, as well as how to manage peer pressure.
Year 8
Students have been busy identifying what constitutes a healthy relationship and discussing how to form positive and healthy new friendships. This moves onto exploring their online activity and behaviours with the aim to reduce online risks and develop their digital resilience. Students also explore the importance of human rights and responsibilities within society, the school environment and the workplace and how to challenge discrimination.
Year 9
Students have been identifying how relationships can change and evolve. This has also included considering loss. Family dynamics and marriage are explored and Year 9 revisit what constitutes a positive relationship. Contraception and the risk of sexually transmitted infections is shared with the students.
Year 10
Students have been reflecting on their work experience placements by sharing their experiences and feedback with one another. They have also been completing their work books and evidence in preparation for their entry to the Prince’s Trust World of Work certification. They will then move on to considering role models and aspirations before revisiting online safety.
Year 11
Students complete their RSHE program this half-term ahead of their exams but have spent some time reflecting on their RSHE journey throughout their time at Mountbatten from Year 7 to Year 11. They have discussed some sensitive topics around pregnancy, miscarriage and abortion with maturity. Positive relationships and consent have been explored and developed from their work in Year 10. We hope that our RSHE curriculum will help our students stay healthy and happy during and long after their exams.
Should your child wish to seek support related to any of these topics or about anything else that is worrying them, please advise them to speak to their form tutor in the first instance or request some support from our Student Support Team by completing the Student Support form on the student area of the school website.
We have our reporting system 'TootToot', where students can report anonymously or with their name.
