As the tulips and daffodils bloom on our wonderful school site, I can’t help thinking about the summer term. With that thought comes the realisation of how close we are to the start of GCSEs for Y11. Revision classes are in full swing with many of our students attending every evening.
I note below for you as parents / carers the timetable too, so that you can support us in prompting your child to attend!
With less than 30 teaching days before the start of the examinations, staff are sharing revision planners with students so that they know exactly what is being covered in their lessons, so that if any are missed, they know what they need to . catch up. As staff, we wish our students every success in the coming weeks.
Moving forward, we continue to celebrate our KS3 and 4 students who have shown excellent progress, effort and attitude in their monitoring with celebration breakfasts. Heads of Year will be inviting those students next week to join in with these celebrations. I know lots of students particularly enjoy the hot chocolate and marshmallows!
Have a lovely weekend and let's hope the sun shines soon.

INSET Days for 2023/24
Tuesday 18 June 2024
Every effort is made to ensure these dates are accurate. There are occasions when circumstances beyond our control may result in changes.
Please find a letter below regarding a student questionnaire. If you do not give consent to your child taking part in the questionnaire, please complete the Google Form in the letter.
This week, our Wellbeing Ambassadors have planned and articulately presented in Year 8 and Year 9 assemblies to share with students what their role in school is and summarise some of the work they have been doing to support student wellbeing. This includes supporting the 'Space to Talk' initiative and Games Clubs which run during breaks and lunchtime as well as planning how they can support the Year 6 transition in the summer term. They are also looking to recruit the next cohort of ambassadors!
Year 8 and 9 have been invited to apply to become a Wellbeing Ambassador. If they are interested in learning about positive mental health and wellbeing, gaining strategies to maintain or improve positive wellbeing and have a desire to champion emotional wellbeing across the school, we would love for them to apply! Wellbeing Ambassadors will complete a training programme delivered by an external provider and will receive a badge and certificate at the end of the course, which bodes well for any potential future prefects!
If they would like any more information, please ask them to come and speak to Mrs Harper, Mrs Rawlins, Mrs Maiden or Mrs Mills. The deadline for completing the Google form is Thursday 28 March.
Young Carers
We recognise the significant impact that a caring role can have on a student, and we work closely with Romsey Young Carers to support those students who take on additional responsibilities at home. Our work with Romsey Young Carers includes attending our weekly Young Carers club and working with our Student Services staff to complete wellbeing reviews amongst many other exciting ventures. At our weekly club, our Young Carers experience a range of activities delivered by a cross-section of different staff and departments. Some highlights have included making pancakes in Food Tech, wearing a space suit in Science and some problem-solving in Geography. It also provides a safe space for our Young Carers to meet other young people who have similar insights and experiences. This week, some of our Young Carers presented an assembly to Year 7 and 9 to raise awareness of Young Carers and their responsibilities. Well done, to those who planned and or presented this week - they were superb!
A Young Carer is a child or young person whose lives are affected by caring for a family member who has a long-term illness or disability, mental health illness or challenges with drugs or alcohol. If you feel that your child could be a Young Carer, or is a Young Carer and is not receiving support at school, please contact us via email youngcarers@mountbatten.school or contact your child’s tutor who can direct you to our team.
Train to Teach Locally

Romsey Police are holding a free bike registration session on Saturday 16 March from 9.00am - 12.00pm. This will take place at Romsey Police Station, 111 The Hundred, Romsey, SO51 8BY.
Bike registering is about getting individuals' bikes registered to the UK’s bicycle database. Registering your bike is a highly effective, visible deterrent to bike thieves. By marking and registering your bike, you stand a chance that the police will be able to return it to you if it is stolen and recovered. A marked bike is 83% less likely to be stolen than an unmarked one. This is because the stickers used don’t come off easily and take forever to get rid of. There are 1.25 million bikes registered in the UK, and they are used by every Police Force in the UK.
Turn up to Romsey Police Station, and they will mark it up with a code and register it on the database.
Main Pay Scale/Upper Pay Scale plus a TLR 2b of £5,355 per annum.

Rotary Technology Competition
Eight Year 11 and four Year 9 students attended the annual Romsey Rotary Technology Competition. The task this year, was to transport an object on a tight rope across an imaginary river! As usual, the task was unknown to the students until it was unveiled on the day. They had 4 hours in which to design, make and test a contraption to fulfil the brief.
Great resilience and team work were demonstrated by all the students who attended. This was rewarded with the Year 11 team compromising of Jacob G 11COY/SDN, Jacob M 11HCS, Theo T 11COY/SDN and Connor C 11RCS being announced as the winners in the intermediate category. This takes Mountbatten's win in the intermediate category to 3 years in a row. A brilliant day at the office for our students! Very many congratulations.
Also, a mention to the other students who took part, who were excellent ambassadors for the school.

Year 10 Work Experience
Students had a busy week preparing for their upcoming work experience (25-28 March). They were visited by Wayne Palmer of 'Thinking Space' who talked to them about employer expectations and how they can get the most out of their work experience placement. Students also started to work on their Prince’s Trust qualification.
We would like to take this opportunity to remind students to contact their employer as soon as possible to check on their working arrangements, such as their working hours, break times, what they should wear, what their duties will be, who they need to report to each day etc.
Year 10 College Taster Day
A reminder email has been sent home regarding the College Taster day.

Click on the tabs below to find out what each year group is exploring in RSHE this term!
Year 7
This half-term, Year 7 will be exploring how to lead healthy lifestyles by considering what health and fitness is before identifying the need for good food, sleep and exercise habits. Students will also explore the impacts of energy drinks and caffeine-based drinks on health and fitness and the law around the sale and consumption of some products. Students will also consider how oral hygiene is important and how lifestyle can affect teeth and gums. Vaping will also be explored, providing students with the opportunity to consider the law, recent guidance and the worrying effects of using E-cigarettes.
Year 8
This half-term, Year 8 will be exploring healthy lifestyles and good physical health, as well as how to maintain emotional wellbeing and self-worth, when using social media. Media bias and different media sources will also be covered, so we can encourage students to consider what influences they may be exposed to and what the reliability and validity of different news sources are.
Year 9
Year 9 will begin the new year by considering what supports healthy living and how to lead a healthy lifestyle at this age. This also includes how to maintain positive mental health and self-worth when using social media. Students will consider how their own self-perception and internet use may be linked and correlated. Students will participate in some basic First Aid training looking at CPR and the recovery position, as well as the use of an AED.
Year 10
Year 10 will kick-start the new term with a recap on healthy living and positive lifestyle choices. Students will be given the opportunity to identify which strategies suit them best when finding relaxation techniques. This then leads into exploring the impacts of drug and alcohol use. Students will consider their current understanding and perceptions of various substances, explore how to manage the risks associated with their use and how to keep themselves and others safe, as well as where to seek advice and information in the future. The influences of gang culture and county lines will also be explored.
Year 11
Year 11 will start the term exploring different stereotypes and ways to challenge them. They will identify what their core values are and how to consider those of others. Students will look at how people identify and explore how they respect the decisions of others. They will also explore why some teenagers are likely to partake in risky behaviours.
Should your child wish to seek support related to any of these topics or about anything else that is worrying them, please advise them to speak to their form tutor in the first instance or request some support from our Student Support Team by completing the Student Support form on the student area of the school website.
We have our reporting system 'TootToot', where students can report anonymously or with their name.
Click the button below to find out how Year 11 students can join an exciting programme that will make a difference to them and their community, with a variety of fun and engaging activities.
