OFSTED have published their school report following the inspection in January. We are delighted that they agreed with our view that The Mountbatten School is a wonderful place to learn. I hope that you recognise your children and their education in their words:
The school offers a warm, caring community in which pupils flourish.
There are high expectations for pupils across the school.
The dedicated team of staff ensures that pupils benefit from strong teaching.
Learning is enriched through a huge number of clubs, experiences and trips.
Pupils immerse themselves in all that the curriculum offers. They become confident and cooperative learners. Over time they achieve well and develop leadership, resilience and independent learning skills that equip them well for the future.
Thank you to everyone who responded to the parent and carer survey – the results of which were overwhelmingly positive. The full report can be found on the school’s website.

Year 10 and 11 - Update from Eastleigh, Fareham and Southampton City College
Please see the message below from the SHCG Consortium:
Please be advised that there is a change of campus location for a few courses that some students may have applied to study from September 2024.
Fareham College, City College Southampton and Eastleigh College merged on 1 August 2023 to become South Hampshire College Group (SHCG). As part of the merger, they are creating Centres of Excellence in a number of subject areas which will enable students to learn in state-of-the-art facilities, but this requires combining two existing curriculum areas from Eastleigh and Southampton into one campus.
This work will be completed over the summer term of 2024, therefore current Year 11 students (and progressing students) will be the first students to benefit from these brand-new facilities. The college will be providing a minibus shuttle service that links Southampton and Eastleigh campuses to enable students to travel between sites if needed.
From September 2024, Eastleigh will have Centres of Excellence in:
Business and Finance
Bricklaying
Health and Social Care
Electrical
From September 2024, Southampton will have Centres of Excellence in:
Digital
Early Years
Engineering
Motor Vehicle
All applicants impacted by this development have been contacted, and have reassured those with college offers that their place is still guaranteed at the change of college location (subject to the conditional offer they were made, i.e. meeting course entry requirements) – they will not need to re-apply or be interviewed again. Websites have been amended to reflect these course moves to ensure any new applicants are fully aware of the location of the course.
Please find some FAQs below. These have also been sent to applicants and their parents/carers.
As part of the public consultation that was held prior to the merger, it was outlined that Centres of Excellence would be created in a number of subject areas between the Eastleigh and Southampton Colleges. As a merged college we are now in a position to begin these capital building projects, they will begin in the summer term of 2024 and are expected to be completed by the end of August 2024.
What is a Centre of Excellence and why is it needed?
The Centres of Excellence will provide students with brand new, state of the art facilities and resources and combine two existing curriculum areas from Eastleigh and Southampton into one campus. Both colleges have excellent existing subject specialists as well as links with external organisations and businesses, by combining these areas together we are maximising those relationships which in turn provides better opportunity for industry placement, apprenticeship and employment prospects following the completion of your course.
How will I get to this new campus?
There are several existing transport links between Southampton and Eastleigh including bus and train routes, further information can be found on the Southampton travel planning tool https://myjourneysouthampton.com/.
Will the college pay for my travel to the new campus?
Will the college provide transport between the two campuses?
From September 2024, the college will have minibus shuttle services that link Southampton and Eastleigh campus to enable students to travel between sites if needed.
I don’t want to move campuses, what are my options?
We understand there may be circumstances where travelling to a new campus may not be possible for you. In this circumstance, you would need to select another subject area to study that is on that campus. Support in finding a new course can be found by contacting the college you wish to attend.
Can I not just stay on my campus and study what I applied for?
Unfortunately not. In order to undertake the significant capital works across both campuses over the summer, the course you applied for will no longer exist on that campus. There is a need to clear the areas to enable a new Centre of Excellence in a different subject area to be created.
What Centres of Excellence are being located where?
From September 2024, Eastleigh will have Centres of Excellence in:
Business and Finance
Bricklaying
Health and Social Care
Electrical
From September 2024, Southampton will have Centres of Excellence in:
Digital
Early Years
Engineering

Click on the tabs below to find out what each year group is exploring in RSHE this term!
Year 7
This half-term, Year 7 will be exploring how to lead healthy lifestyles by considering what health and fitness is before identifying the need for good food, sleep and exercise habits. Students will also explore the impacts of energy drinks and caffeine-based drinks on health and fitness and the law around the sale and consumption of some products. Students will also consider how oral hygiene is important and how lifestyle can affect teeth and gums. Vaping will also be explored, providing students with the opportunity to consider the law, recent guidance and the worrying effects of using E-cigarettes.
Year 8
This half-term, Year 8 will be exploring healthy lifestyles and good physical health, as well as how to maintain emotional wellbeing and self-worth, when using social media. Media bias and different media sources will also be covered, so we can encourage students to consider what influences they may be exposed to and what the reliability and validity of different news sources are.
Year 9
Year 9 will begin the new year by considering what supports healthy living and how to lead a healthy lifestyle at this age. This also includes how to maintain positive mental health and self-worth when using social media. Students will consider how their own self-perception and internet use may be linked and correlated. Students will participate in some basic First Aid training looking at CPR and the recovery position, as well as the use of an AED.
Year 10
Year 10 will kick-start the new term with a recap on healthy living and positive lifestyle choices. Students will be given the opportunity to identify which strategies suit them best when finding relaxation techniques. This then leads into exploring the impacts of drug and alcohol use. Students will consider their current understanding and perceptions of various substances, explore how to manage the risks associated with their use and how to keep themselves and others safe, as well as where to seek advice and information in the future. The influences of gang culture and county lines will also be explored.
Year 11
Year 11 will start the term exploring different stereotypes and ways to challenge them. They will identify what their core values are and how to consider those of others. Students will look at how people identify and explore how they respect the decisions of others. They will also explore why some teenagers are likely to partake in risky behaviours.
Should your child wish to seek support related to any of these topics or about anything else that is worrying them, please advise them to speak to their form tutor in the first instance or request some support from our Student Support Team by completing the Student Support form on the student area of the school website.
We have our reporting system 'TootToot', where students can report anonymously or with their name.
Click the button below to find out how Year 11 students can join an exciting programme that will make a difference to them and their community, with a variety of fun and engaging activities.
